What is a hunt group?

A hunt group (also known as a call group, call queue, or ring group) is a feature in a telephony system that allows incoming calls to be distributed among a group of extensions or agents.

When a call comes in to a hunt group, it will ring on all the extensions that are part of that group. The first person to answer the call takes the call and the other extensions stop ringing. If no one answers the call, it may be redirected to a voicemail or to another extension or group.

Hunt groups are commonly used in call centers or customer support teams to ensure that incoming calls are answered efficiently. They can also be used in other types of businesses or organizations to handle incoming calls more effectively and evenly distribute the workload among staff members.

Hunt groups can be set up with different options such as a sequential hunt group where each extension is called in order until someone answers the call or simultaneous hunt group where all extensions ring at the same time. They can also be configured to have specific ring cadences or call routing paths based on the time of day, day of the week, or other criteria.
